A public relations specialist's job can cover planning big events to sending out a survey to 100+ people, but also dwells in detailed jobs like writing memos. The main objective of memos are to provide a means of communication of procedures, policies and other related information throughout the company or organization. Memos are meant to inform and are usually sent either as a mass broadcast to the company or specifically to a director.
I created my first memo in my pr writing class for a pretend client. The memo was created for the executive director of Variety Care, a healthcare nonprofit, to inform them about a completed communications calendar for the organization. I completed the memo on April 12, 2020 and was challenged to use my writing and editing skills to make the memo clear, personal and professional.
While memos aren't the most tedious work a PR professional does, I learned that they are vital to communicating to co-workers within the company and are a direct way to sharing information about upcoming events, new policies, etc.
Take a look below for my completed Variety Care memo:

MEMO Date: April 12, 2020 To: Variety Care Executive Director From: Haley Towe Public Relations Director

htowe@varietycare.org Subject: Communications Calendar for Variety Care
President Dunn: Attached to this memo is a communications calendar for the last quarter of 2020, where I have formatted tasks, events and interviews for the clinic.
As you know, the latter part of our year is extremely busy as our patients try to get their appointments in before the year ends. I hope this calendar helps organize our team’s tasks and puts us ahead as we look towards the new year.
I will be sending you project updates as we make progress through planning events and uploading videos to our YouTube channel. Please let me know if you need any projects moved to the front of our task list and I will be happy to do so. I will be posting this calendar in the public relations office on Monday. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
Thank you very much.
Haley Towe
