The most fascinating class I took during my time at the University of Oklahoma was crisis communications for public relations majors. We got to research past companies and organizations that fell into crises, self-inflicted or not. It really made me see public relations in a new light, and I finished the class feeling informed and prepared for future crises in the working world.


One of our first projects was to create a fact sheet for a pretend client that we would later create a crisis communication plan for. The fact sheet was completed on April 30, 2020 for Ontario Systems, written for media, key audiences and stakeholders to provide vital background information about the company. I utilized my research, writing, editing and formatting skills to complete this task for my crisis communications class. The eventual communication plan for Ontario Systems was completed in group work, but the fact sheet below I completed individually.


It is important to have fact sheets and backgrounders on file for clients and companies to send alongside to future press and media releases, and they are super easy to crank out. I was able to learn how to research, format and create a fact sheet in one sitting, and it helped me gain key experience for future jobs and clients.
